Soma is rich in natural energy resources, which consist of known reserves 600 million tons of coal and 1034 MW electricity production that make an important contribution to the Turkish national economy. State (T.K.I.-E.L.I.) and private companies are responsible for coal extraction. Electricity generation is produced by Power Plant (Termik Santral) established in Soma(SEAS)
Many people are employed in the state energy sector. This is very important for Turkey and its economy as well. Coal power is becoming increasingly important recently, because Turkish Republic Government declared that “ we will return to our native (domestic) energy recourses, as a new policy and will try to develop a competitive and cheaper coal industry”
The miners say “If these power plant’s chimneys don’t work and give out smoke, also if this coal is not been extracted , we can not live here, this is not a disgraces but it is coal black" . We share our miners's word.
However we say these giant chimneys not only give out smoke but also must be clean and healty. Because preservation of environment is basic principle of sustainable development and human improvement. Save nature save yourself. We have to use and provide renewable energy recources.
Soma is a culture and civilization center since prehistoric times. Such as Eti , Lidya Persian , Macedonian, Bergamo Kingdom, Roman and Bizans to Selcuk, Karesi Beyligi and Ottoman Empire, and become a district in the beginning of 17th century. Today Soma is a district of Turkish Republic.
Famous Turkish Traveler and History Writer Evliya Çelebi says in his important Travel Book (Seyahatname) “ Soma is the name of the one of twelve disciples- apostles of Jesus Christ.” We would like to offer this information to the scientists and historians studies.
Emir Hidir Bey Mosque was built nearly 700 years ago, this mosque very important touristic attraction in Soma .Also this Mosque has very significant characteristics from the view of art, architecture and art history. Mentese Thermal Springs..(Mentese Kaplicalari) : Mentese Thermal Spring water is curative and health giving. This water contains many minerals and has 70 C warmth. Manisa Province has built a motel in Mentese Village, many comfortable rooms in the forest are waiting for guest.
As a district governor my understanding of administration includes governance and total quality and democratic participation. Local people should participate and protect all public services. This cooperation will provide the total quality. The state can not perform all services. Firstly Public - Sector is responsible for the public services. Secondly Private Sector is machinery energy of economic development in the country as well as in Soma. I will support and backup our investors’ businessmen and all private sector investments. Third Sector includes volunteer organizations, NGO, businessmen associations, commerce and industry chambers, trade unions, foundations, societies, mass media, local leaders etc.
We will work and produce services together with these figures and organizations also we will co-operate with them. We will make state and people co-operations raise. Our objectives was declared by Ataturk “ To reach the modern, industrialized and civilized contemporary world”
In frame of e-state Project and in the way of European Union(EU) we want to introduce and advertise Soma . In addition we want to reach information and communication technologies easily in the changing world.
